Transneft Far East Completes Monitoring of Horizontal Location and Elevation of Pipelines Facilities

Transneft Far East has completed the monitoring of horizontal location and elevation of facilities at the second stage of the Eastern Siberia – Pacific Ocean oil pipeline (ESPO-2) and the pipeline offshoot from ESPO to the Komsomolsk Refinery.

A survey of 202 facilities was conducted: 171 stop valve units and 31 PIG traps in all territories where they run — in Amur Region, Jewish Autonomous Region, Khabarovsk and Primorye Territories. Based on the survey results and comparative analysis of the data obtained, no substandard deviations affecting the safe operation of the facilities were identified.

The facilities were constructed in difficult geological conditions, on permafrost soils, crossing swampy areas, landslide zones and areas of increased seismicity. For example, on the route from Skovorodino, Amur Region, to the Kozmino Port in Primorye Territory, ESPO-2 crosses 14 tectonic faults, as well as the changing bed of the Amur River, one of the largest rivers in the Russian Federation.

Transneft Far East specialists monitor the horizontal location and elevation of facilities using high-precision geodetic equipment twice a year, during the periods of maximum thawing and freezing of soils. The goal is to maintain a high level of safety in process of oil transportation via ESPO-2 and pipeline offshoot from ESPO to the Komsomolsk Refinery.
